Police Facility

Police Department, City of Norwalk

The Norwalk Public Safety Facility is a state of the art 22,500 square foot structure that was designed to accommodate a growing community. The Police area was constructed in 2001 and comprises 8,900 square feet. The Fire/ Rescue area of 11,600 square feet and about 2,000 square feet of shared areas was completed in 2007.

The facility includes 7 vehicle bays and a maintenance bay to provide ample storage for all of the City's Fire/ Rescue vehicles. It also includes 2 prisoner-holding areas and a vehicle sally port to move prisoners safely. Portions of the building are hardened structures to withstand tornado strikes they include the City emergency operations center, the communications center, the records vault, the evidence room, locker/ shower area, kitchen and the voice/data room. The second story will provide additional space for the City's growth as a dormitory for Fire/ Rescue personnel when the City may go to around the clock staffing.

The bay area and the approaching thresholds are radiant heated by warm water flowing through piping in the floor. This is one of the most efficient systems we could have installed. Sensors are located on the exterior and the interior to regulate the system.

The foresight of past Councils established a Commercial Tax Increment Finance District and that allowed our community to build the Fire/ Rescue addition without increasing property taxes. The foresight of the present Council has insured that we have sufficient space in this facility to allow our community and it's emergency services to double in size. We are certainly proud and grateful to have this new community building.
